The Journal of Salutogenic Architecture (JSA) is an international, open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal examining how architecture and the built environment support human health and well-being. It aims to advance salutogenic theory and translate research evidence into design principles, practices and technologies that promote healthier environments.
The journal welcomes original research articles, review articles, theoretical and methodological studies, and rigorously evaluated case studies across three interconnected areas:
Section A — Salutogenic Architecture and the Built Environment: Applications of salutogenic theory, including comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness; relationships between architectural aesthetics, spatial experience and health; and connections with other architectural and environmental theories.
Section B — Well-being in Architecture and the Built Environment: Indoor environmental quality, including air quality and thermal, visual and acoustic comfort; biophilic design; healing environments; responsive architecture; resilience; and evaluation of buildings and spaces through users’ experiences and health-related outcomes.
Section C — Green Built Environment and Technologies: Sustainable design, passive and low-energy strategies, green building technologies, and sustainable and non-toxic materials, with explicit relevance to human health and well-being.
JSA serves researchers, architects, designers, planners and professionals working at the intersection of design, environmental performance and public health. Interdisciplinary contributions are welcome when they demonstrate a clear connection to the journal’s scope. Submissions must offer scholarly originality, appropriate methodological rigor and a substantive contribution to knowledge or practice.
