Editorial Responsibilities and Independence

Section Coordinators maintain the scholarly coherence of their sections and support editorial development. Section Editors assess assigned submissions, identify suitable independent reviewers, oversee revisions and recommend decisions to the responsible editor. Advisory appointments provide advice on the journal's scope, research priorities, methodological standards and international scholarly engagement; advisory status does not automatically confer authority to accept manuscripts.

Research articles undergo double-blind review by at least two independent external reviewers. Editors must protect confidentiality, declare relevant competing interests and withdraw from decisions where a conflict exists. Submissions by editors, board members or their close collaborators follow the same standards and are handled by an independent editor. The publisher, sponsors and commercial interests do not determine scholarly decisions.

Board Membership and Appointment Policy

Acceptance and accurate information. Appointment requires written acceptance, agreement to the assigned responsibilities and consent to publish the member's approved name, affiliation and professional profile. Members must provide accurate institutional details and promptly report changes. The journal regularly checks and updates its public board list.

Expertise and diversity. Appointments are based on relevant expertise, research contributions, editorial competence and willingness to participate. The journal seeks disciplinary, institutional and geographical diversity appropriate to its scope. Citation totals alone do not determine appointment or editorial decisions.

Appointment term. Editorial and advisory board appointments are made for three calendar years. The journal contacts members approximately six months before their term expires to discuss renewal. Reappointment depends on satisfactory performance, timely completion of agreed duties, constructive engagement and adherence to the journal's ethics policy and relevant COPE guidance.

Active participation. JSA does not maintain honorary or inactive board positions. Where a member has not fulfilled agreed duties for twelve months without prior notice, the editorial office contacts the member to establish their availability. Following documented contact and an opportunity to respond, an inactive appointment may be ended and the public list updated. Approved leave or other agreed circumstances are taken into account.

Voluntary service. Editorial and advisory board members serve voluntarily, without financial compensation for their journal roles.

Jurisdictional neutrality. The Journal of Salutogenic Architecture remains neutral regarding jurisdictional claims in institutional affiliations and published maps. Institutional names and location descriptions are presented for identification and do not imply a political position.

Research integrity. Members must uphold impartiality, confidentiality, responsible citation and research integrity. They must not pressure authors to include irrelevant citations to the journal, editors or board members.

For the duties of editors and reviewers, complaints and appeals procedures, and other editorial safeguards, see the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
