We invite submissions for our special issue, "Holistic Habitats: Healing our Dwelling Practices" in the Journal of Salutogenic Architecture.

Architecture and urbanism are illnesses similar to wars, pollution of the environment, climate disruption, poverty, hate crimes, biodiversity loss, and pandemics. It is an unhealthy state of mind to distinguish our bodies or our habitats from our living planet. Architecture and urbanism are products of colonizing and siloing knowledge and life. There are no individual species in nature, but biodiversity, even within our bodies, and there are no buildings or cities, but habitats and ecosystems, in which we co-dwell with other species and with our living planet. Our dwelling practices define our relations with each other and with our planet and for this simple reason, they are social/political and ecological. We need urgent actions to heal our current anthropocentric and exploitative dwelling practices which make ourselves, other species, and our planet vulnerable and unsustainable. It is obvious that the interconnected problems demand holistic solutions and this needs a radical shift in the conception and definition of our dwelling practices and habitats. This call encourages the submission of groundbreaking ideas, experimental ventures, and practical applications across various domains, including anthropology, environmental science, ecology, urban policy-making, urban planning, urban design, architecture, building science, and landscape design. Join us in redefining the way we dwell and co-dwell, advancing holistic habitats as a remedy for contemporary challenges. Submit your article proposals (a title and 300-word abstract) to hossein.sadri@coventry.ac.uk by mid-August 2024. Accepted proposals will have five months to develop full manuscripts.
